Grandfather clocks are a beautiful addition to any home, but they need to be properly cared for in order to keep ticking if they are to last for generations and run smoothly.

1. Keep the area around the clock free from dust by using a feather duster or microfiber cloth regularly to reduce the amount of dust getting into the mechanism.

1. Clean off any smudges on the case with a soft cotton cloth dampened with water and mild soap solution. Never use harsh chemicals, wet wipes or spray cleaners directly onto the surface of your Grandfather clock as these can damage the surface of the wood.

1. It is recommended that you check the weights regularly. Modern weights have hooks that are screwed on at the top and a screw at the bottom. It’s important to check that these screws do not loosen.

1. It is recommended to keep a clock wound and in use to keep the clock mechanism running well. If you do stop the clock for an extended period of time, we recommend running the clock every so often, even for a short while, so that the mechanism doesn’t seize.
